My internship at Bullens – Holly McCormack

BullensBlog, Bullen Healthcare

We said goodbye to our latest marketing intern on Friday. It’s hard to believe that Holly was with us for a whole year, it really flew by. We are going to miss her loads, especially as there’s now no-one to monitor the biscuit drawer!! Holly is off travelling to Australia and Thailand over the summer before she starts her last year at Liverpool John Moore’s University. We asked Holly to write a blog about what she’s learnt during her time here with us at Bullens.

Holly said…

I have officially completed my year here at Bullens and I can honestly say that time has flown. Thinking back to when I first started here seems like a distant memory! I will always be grateful to everyone here at Bullen and for the opportunity that I have been given to gain experience in marketing whilst working in a professional environment. It’s easy to read through textbooks and take notes however, what I have learnt whilst being here has been invaluable and I am now confident in how to apply my academic knowledge to a professional environment.

Starting a new job is always daunting and I was definitely nervous at first. If it wasn’t for my team I wouldn’t have settled in so quickly. The people here at Bullens really have made my experience here, from the colleagues that I sit with at lunch to those that I work with on a regular basis, each and every one of them has impacted my time here in a positive way.

I have learnt so many new skills since being here that it is hard to choose just a few. I have had numerous opportunities to expand on my communication skills through meetings and presenting at the annual company event, to name but a few. I have also had many opportunities to work as a team to develop marketing campaigns and execute ideas. My analytical skills have improved dramatically having had the opportunity to carry out research within the business, analysing both quantitative and qualitative data.

I think one of my favourite tasks has been rebranding our Welcome Pack. I mentioned in my initial interview that branding was something that I would love to have the opportunity to work on and to have done so whilst being here is something that I really enjoyed. This is definitely something that I want to consider when focusing on my future career path.

Another task that I have enjoyed working on was the development of our staff intranet. I learnt so many new skills in the process and my manager even taught me how to use WordPress to create and edit landing pages. The intranet requires regular editing in order to keep staff updated with the latest announcements within the business and I have helped to keep this up to date. Working on the Intranet also gave me the opportunity to connect with key departmental figures within the business.

Overall, I have fully enjoyed my time here and I have taken away a lot of new skills as well as having expanded on my knowledge of marketing and the processes that are involved to execute campaigns. I have a more in depth knowledge of how valuable social media can be to a business and have also experienced times when it can have a negative impact. I have also learnt a lot about myself throughout the experience.

There are so many people that I will miss when I leave to continue back at University and I can’t thank them enough for making my experience here!
